Request for a possibility to move pivots outside of origin

PostPosted by DominikUrban » Tue Mar 14, 2017 5:18 pm

Hello Akeytsu people,
We are trying our best to import our character to a game engine we use - Cryengine, and it's necessary for us to be able to change pivots of mesh, without actually moving the mesh itself. I mean I need to move a pivot of the mesh to 0,0,0 but if I move it there, the mesh moves too, and I want the mesh to stay where it is, only move the pivot. I hope it makes sense. Is it possible? I know you can do this in Maya, Max and such.
Thanks,
Dominik Urban

Hi DominikUrban,

We totally understand what you mean. We will add it to our list, it makes sense.
However i prefer inform you it won't be for short term. So we really suggest you to continue to use your modeling tools to move mesh pivots before importing them in akeytsu.
Thanks for your comprehension.

Cheers,
Aurelien

HI Aurelién!
Thank you for your reply, OK, understood.
Yes we try to do as you said, meaning using other modeling tools to move mesh pivots to 0,0,0 before importing them in akeytsu, but when do it, Akeytu imports it as this :D
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6R2GJNG3grgY2FuaHBQRDE3QW8/view?usp=sharing
Meaning yes, it reads everything as moved to 0,0,0 :D

Did you "Freeze Transformations and then "Reset Transformations" (If you work in Maya f.i) your meshes before export them ? In this case, it should work.
By the way, the easiest and fastest way to to reset a mesh pivot to 0,0,0 without to manually moving is to perform the 2 operations above.

Thanks,
Aurelien

Bonjour Aurélien,
We tried to fix this problem the whole day, but with no success :/ Yes we think also it might be a problem with the Freeze Transform and Reset Transform you said works in Maya, thank you a lot for your suggestion, however we work with 3DS Max and didn't figure it out. Do you know how to set it right with 3DS Max? Everytime we try to make a pivot of a mesh in a different position it always just snaps back to the mesh when opened in Akeytsu :( Is it possible that this might have to do with some Preferences settings in Akeytsu?
Merci beaucoup,
Dominik

Hi Dominik,

Well you probably know 3DS MAX much more than we do , although we have done some research but haven't been sucessful as well. So to try to find a solution, we have requested by email the help of few 3DS MAX experts who also animate with akeytsu, hoping they could help us with this one. Maybe someone reading this post and who knows MAX pretty well can bring their light to the problem.
I am therefore appealing to all : Akeytsu friends who are also using MAX , do you have any idea on how to manage this case ?

Beside this, no it has nothing to do with our preferences setting.
We'll keep on inquiring and if you find a way in the meantime, let us know.

Ça nous fait plaisir ;)
A bientôt,
Julie

Bonjour Dominik,

We received a tips from one of our 3DS Max user, please try it:
- Select your mesh
- Go into the Utilities panel (at right on the UI)
- Press Reset Xform
- Then collapse your mesh into editable mesh or editable poly

Hoping it will help.

Cheers,
Aurelien

Hi Aurélien and Julie!
Thank you all for helping us, we have already figured out the same solution as you described, but thanks anyway for finding a way for us!
Merci,
Dominik
