Hi When I opened the fbx you sent with max, I see that it has 100% scale on all the bones. But 9999.999 percent on all meshes. Screenshot here (http://imgur.com/a/7o2yi ) . Does it not matter as long as the bones are 100%?

Could you please share the steps you took to create this fbx from the fbx I sent you? Did you use max or other software?

I figure this fbx is export of akeystu. Could you send me the fixed fbx that you actually imported to akeytsu?

I am just trying to figure out how I can avoid this in the future. (I use Manuel Bastioni blender plugin as the main resource for the model, reducing polys in max . And I suspect it is the source of this scaled objects, I need to define a workflow to get that output into a usable model)

Thanks for your support.

Hi,

While I was experimenting importing and exporting with max (trying different units) I semi-accidentally fixed the scale!!! Why does it have to be so complicated. Anyways I sent the resulting fbx to support email in case it might be useful in some way. This one imported to akeytsu perfectly with correct size and working IK!!

Thanks for your support.

Hi,

We are glad to hear that it worked for you.
Here is the answer we were preparing for you.
We are interested to know how you succeeded in unscaling with 3ds Max.

As we said in our mail, we just have touched your bones because that's why IK doesn't work.
We didn't change your meshes and 9999.999 percent means 100 scale units.

Even if they are big, it seems not to be a problem for the rest because they are bound to your bones.
But it can be better to use 1,72meters models and build bones with this new one.

In order to undo your bones' scales, what we have done is:
- open your file in Maya (and not 3DSMax, since we'd obtain a weird result),
- deploy Channel Box/Layer Editor (on the right),
- click on the bone which is scaled (here the root),
- and changed scale X, Y and Z to 1.

We have just sent you an email with the FBX obtained after those changes.

Hi as I said it was semi-accidental.

Here is what I did in max:

- I set the system unit scale to 1 unit = 1 centimeter in units setting (screenshot: http://imgur.com/a/exSPV ) before I opened any file
- Then I opened the max scene file where I exported the fbx with x100 scale on root (the one you changed to make it work with IK). This produced a warning message saying files unit (which was in meters) mismatched current setting. (screenshot: http://imgur.com/a/yvSBl )
- I picked to "rescale the file objects... option

It scaled (more like converted) the bones and meshes without actually putting any scale. Resulting scales were all 1 (100 percent). When I exported fbx from this scene I had the working fbx.

As a matter of fact I redid the process by the fbx file with x100 scale on root (the one you changed to make it work with IK):

- I set the system unit scale to meters in max
- I imported the fbx wrongly scaled root into the empty scene.
- I saved a max scene file.
- I closed the max scene file
- I set the system scale unit back to centimeters.
- I opened the saved scene file. (This produced the warning)
- I picked the "scale file objects ..." option
- Bam! max fixed the scales!

I don't presume I quite got why it worked but it did. I hope it helps anyone who is struggling with max's units out there.
